We now have to say goodbye to April and welcome with open arms the month of May after coming through a season of darkness and cold. With the coming of May, we open up our windows, we set out our lawn furniture. and we take our morning cup of coffee and our paper to read and to enjoy the warmth of the morning sun.
May really is a season of rebirth. We can all have the opportunity to witness this by planting vegetables. Whether you have an acre of ground or just a pot on the back porch, you can be a witness to this state.
My real pleasure is seeing the beautiful flowers, especially my pansies, with their beautiful little faces and who I enjoy talking too. Now I am not going to say they answer me but that is between me and them.
But let’s get back to rebirth. Vegetables really restore our belief that life goes on. Just as you take the time to prepare the soil, place the seeds in the soil, and water them, in a few weeks the tiny shoots will come though the soil and eventually the plants will need to be replanted in larger containers and then the watering will become an everyday event.
When the first tomato or zucchini or pepper comes on the vine, then you have been a witness to new life. Yet do you know that the best is yet to come? That is when you get to share your crop with someone or how about that first salad or the first tiella.
This story also refers to our life. In a way we follow the same steps, but we must remember that it is our duty to cultivate in order to enjoy a good harvest. Happy farming.
Just a note to compliment the West Virginia Italian Heritage Festival on a great Gala. Everything was so elegant, and the new Regina Maria was a great choice. I so enjoyed having the opportunity to talk to so many friends. It is so rewarding to me to know that the Italian Festival will go on. Thanks to the Board of Directors and the volunteers.
Please mark your calendars to go vote. We have all had many opportunities to get to know the candidates and I encourage you to make a good selection.
Stay healthy, take care and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”
