City Faces in Different Places

It’s funny how things work sometimes… I do believe things happen for a reason. It was perfect timing for me to make acquaintance with this delightful couple, Ron and Janet Bucy, this morning at Deegan Lake in Bridgeport. They were just getting ready to go for their daily walk when I asked them for an interview. It started to rain as I interviewed them but stopped as we finished. Again, it was meant to be… The reason I say it was perfect timing is that I’ve been at the WVSSAC State Track Meet in Charleston the last two days with the Bridgeport High School Track and Field team. I am very proud to say my son is a state champion in the AA 4 x 800 relay with Zack Abbott, Matt Dearth and Abe Merinar. These boys also broke a BHS school record! After reading this interview – you’ll see why this was fate I met Ron and Janet and how we are connected in several ways. It turns out I’ve known their daughter Lisa for years also…
Name: Ron and Janet Bucy
How long have you lived in Bridgeport? Lifelong. Ron graduated from BHS with my mother-in-law Norma Lazzelle Duez.
Children: Daughter Lisa lives in Bridgeport. She is married to Mark Povroznik and has 2 girls. Lisa and Mark are both pharmacists. Son Mark lives in North Carolina. He is married to Amy and has 2 boys. Mark is a pediatrician.
Favorite Bridgeport spot: They both love the walking trail that runs along Hinkle and Deegan Lakes. They walk four miles every day.
Favorite spot outside of Bridgeport in WV? Ron – Blackwater Falls; Janet – Tygart Lake
Favorite spot outside of WV? Janet – Costa Rica; Ron – Israel (currently planning another trip back)
Work: Both Retired – Janet from BMS 8thgrade Science, Ron from Small Business Administration
Janet taught my husband Matt when he was in 8thgrade
Hobbies: Janet loves tennis but has a bad knee, golf and volunteer and Exec. Board Member of Harrison County Humane Society; Ron loves running and walking. He also enjoys learning more about Israel through reading, research and trips.
Interesting facts about you: Ron has run a marathon in every state in the United States twice, in 35 countries and on every continent, including Antarctica. He also has run in ultra-marathons (50 miles). His best time was 9 hours, 35 minutes at the JFK Memorial Run from Boonsboro, Maryland to Williamsport, MD in 2001.
