Sneak Peak Into Meadowbrook Mall's New Look

There was no groundbreaking today at Meadowbrook Mall, but with the help of Bridgeport City Councilman Darrell Bowen, mall officials did a little ceiling breaking.
The ceiling tile smashed on site was one of many which have already been removed at Center Court to make way for the installation of new electrical lines supporting an energy-efficient skylight lighting system.
“Demolition is the first part of this project,” said Joe Bell, director of corporate communications for CAFARO, the mall’s parent company.
At an 11 a.m. press conference, Bell revealed some of the specific plans for the $5 million renovation, expected to be completed by the end of October.
The Center Court facelift will also include new ceiling, carpeting and porcelain tile flooring. Restrooms will be revamped and a new family restroom facility added. A revamped food court will include the addition of outdoor seating. An array of landscape projects will also serve to beautify the mall complex, Bell said.
“You can go outside for a little lunch or little coffee. It will be great,” Bell said.
Directional signage, some of which has already been replaced, is also included in the renovation plans, as are new outdoor storefronts, the addition of upgraded soft seating areas and extra customer amenities.
Throughout the renovation process, the mall will remain open during normal business hours, Bell said.
“Not a single day will be lost for our merchants,” he said.
Plastic sheeting will be utilized to seal off storefronts while construction crews are working during after-business hours. Each morning around dawn, crews will roll up barriers, clean up debris and prepare the mall for opening to customers.
“Ladies and gentlemen, get ready for big changes at the Meadowbrook Mall,” Bell said. “We are so looking forward to the changes to come.”
The Youngstown, Ohio-based CAFARO is the country’s largest privately held shopping center developer, owning and overseeing more than 30 million square feet of commercial real estate in 11 states. The developer is launching the major Meadowbrook Mall renovation for good reason, said Anthony Cafaro, Jr. co-president.
“We’re making this major investment because our merchants and our loyal customers here in the Clarksburg area deserve a modern, comfortable and beautiful shopping environment,” he said.
The bidding process is immediately forthcoming and when a contractor is named, a renovation schedule will be available, said Robin Urquhart, Meadowbrook Mall marketing director.
