When we moved here in 1940 that was the city jail...when they moved to a new location behind the fire dept. it was turned into a small restaurant called the CITY GRILL. I know the woman that owned it was a Barker, but I don't recall her married name...I do know that Virginia Mason's first restaurant was in a small store front beside the old pool room, which was across the street from Dr. Chandler's office, then she moved into the Kester building (Dairy Queen) and finally into her last location where the Dr's office now stands... From what I remember and have been told, that little building was once the city jail ?? Also it was a restaurant or coffee shop. In fact I do believe it was called the Coffee Shop. I believe the woman that eventually had Ginny's/The Virginian which was where Dr. Miller complex is now had it. My grandmother worked there as well...ah the good ole' days.
