Bridgeport Resident who Owned Pair of Businesses in Area, Norma Jean Shingleton Simon, Passes at 88

Norma Jean Shingleton Simon, 88, of Bridgeport, passed away Friday, September 6, 2019, at her residence with her family by her side. She was born August 20, 1931, in Shinnston, the daughter of the late Sheldon Roy and Madge Marie Layfield Shingleton.
 
Norma graduated from Mannington High School, Class of 1949. She worked at the Shinnston telephone company for years. She and her husband owned Simons Market in Shinnston and Pine Grove.
 
Her hobbies were sewing, crocheting, painting, singing and playing cards and board games. She was a member of Simpson Creek Baptist Church, Bridgeport Senior Citizens, past president of Pine Grove Garden Club, past Noble Grand of Priscilla Rebekah Lodge #296 in Reader, past matron of Shinnston #103 Order of the Eastern Star, and past high priestess of Tefnet Court #87 LOSNA, Clarksburg.
 
 
Norma is survived by her two grandsons, Sean Yoho and Lisa, New Martinsville, and Andrew Yoho and Sarah, Stonewood; five great-grandchildren, McKinlee, Faith, Isabella, Sabastian and Jericho; sister, Elizabeth “Libby” Butcher, Monongah; sister-in-law, Minda Shingleton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
 
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Paul Simon; one daughter, Carol Darling, and her husband Jim; one son, Steve Simon; one granddaughter, Staci Jo Miller; her sisters and their husbands, Shirley M. McClain (Richard), Betty O’Neal (Bill), Nancy McIntire (Junior), Mildred McIntire (Ivan), and Myrtle Halpenny (John); one brother, William “Bill” Shingleton; and one brother-in-law, Gail Butcher.
 
Family will receive friends at Davis Funeral Home, 124 Olen Thomas Drive, Clarksburg, on Monday, September 9, 2019, from 2-8 p.m. and on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour at 1 p.m., with Pastor Chris Shingleton officiating. Interment will follow at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery.
