At 1:38 p.m., a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 79 sent one female patient to United Hospital Center. She had been driving a silver Cadillac SRX, traveling south, when she veered to the right, went off road and over an embankment, striking a construction rig and bouncing back before coming to a stop in a ditch. The incident happened at the 124 mile marker.
There was damage to the front end of the SRX and slight damage to the rig, which was in place to drill holes along the interstate for the installation of light poles. A worker was on the rig at the time and saw the scene unfold. The female driver was the only occupant of the SRX, which had Texas license plates. She was transported to UHC by Bridgeport Emergency Services. The incident is under investigation by Bridgeport Police Department. More information will be reported as it becomes available.
