Just after 4 p.m. Monday, traffic was slowed on Route 131 near the entrance to Bridgeport Recreation Complex when a car struck an embankment.
The vehicle was traveling north on Route 131 when the driver swerved to miss a deer, caught the edge of the road and overcompensated; spinning sideways and hitting the bank, said Bridgeport Police Officer Brian Hyde. The vehicle landed in a ditch and had to be towed from the scene.
Hyde said he happened upon the incident, arriving before the call was even dispatched. Because of early arrival of law enforcement, the situation got under control quickly and kept backed traffic at a minimum.
