Off the Shelf: Annual Summer Reading Program has Begun for Kids and Adults

By Sharon Saye on June 12, 2012 from Off the Shelf

The Summer Reading Programs have started at the library.  There are two programs, one for children and one for adults.

The theme for the children’s program is “Dream Big Read!”  Children 12 or younger are encouraged to take part.  Participants set their own reading goal; the minimum goal is 10 chapters/books.  Kids are invited to keep a reading log and a record of their activities.  They can chart their journey by writing down any book, magazine or newspaper they read to themselves or someone else reads to them in their reading logs.  Reading logs can be exchanged for a prize as they are completed.

Children who have received 25 reward stickers on their record of activities will receive a certificate and gift.  Only one gift is issued per child and each child will receive a similar gift.

The theme for the adult reading program is “Between the Covers.”  This program is open to patrons ages 13 and up.  Patrons will receive one prize entry for each book they read during the program.  Books should be returned to the front desk in order to receive the entry.  Prize drawings will be held at the end of each week.

Programs, prizes and gifts are provided by the Library, the City of Bridgeport, Clarksburg and Bridgeport Chic-Fil-A, Bridgeport Dairy Queen, Wendy’s of Harrison County and McDonald’s of Harrison County.

Programs for each age group are scheduled throughout June and July.  Please pick up a handout that provides details including time and date.
