City Resident, R-W and GSC Alum Chris George on 2018 College Football Hall of Fame Ballot for Wideout

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on June 12, 2018

EDITOR'S NOTE: The following is the start of a blog written by Chuck Landon of The Herald-Dispatch in Huntington on Chris George. Connect-Bridgeport recommends you click the link at the end to read the entire piece on George.

Three questions about one guy.

1.  Who was college football's all-time leader in career receptions?

Anyone who guessed Jerry Rice is wrong. Fred Biletnikoff? That also is incorrect. It isn't Larry Fitzgerald, either.

2. Who was college football's all-time career leader in highest receiving yards per game?

Pick a wide receiver, any wide receiver. This is a very tough query to answer correctly.

3. Who was the only West Virginia native on the 2018 College Football Hall of Fame's recently announced list of nominees for induction?

I know what everybody is thinking. Randy Moss, right? Wrong.

The answer to all three questions is Chris George.

Altogether now, who?

Don't blame yourselves. George wouldn't, either. The Clarksburg, West Virginia, native and current resident is as magnanimous off the football field as he was productive on the gridiron.

And that's saying something.

After all, the 5-foot-11, 175-pound George held nine national records in receiving by the end of his collegiate career in 1994 at Glenville State College.

Nine!
