Hands down the best WV Football player is Sam Huff of Farmington. Then there is Curt Warner of Pineville and James Jett of Jefferson County. Besides playing in the NFL Jett was also a member of the 92 Olympic Track team receiving gold medal in the 4x100 relay team. Oh and Jerry West can't leave him off. The list can go on and on.
I agree with Kevin it is a easy choice the best athlete in BHS history was Chris Sprenger.

Jeff, you asked about the best athlete we have seen. I saw many of the games you mentioned about Randy Moss as well. If you are talking about the best WV Athlete I would like to mention the name of Melvin Walker of Dunbar. He graduated in 1966. Some of the things I know are Kennedy Award Winner, State Champion in Basketball, State Runner Up in Football his Senior Year. There are other things but our Friends in Charleston have already argued the point. http://4amoreperfectunion.blogspot.com/2008/03/west-virginia-greatest-athlete.html
In that article you will read of the saddest part about Melvin. He went to School at the University of Wisconsin. In his last game as a Sophomore he was injured and after complications his leg was amputated. No doubt Professional sports were in his future.

Best Bridgeport and County Athlete in my lifetime is easy….Chris Sprenger. He was offered by many teams in all three sports (basketball, football, baseball) he played at the D-1 level. IMO, no one close.
