Jeff, Long before you started watching Tribe Football there were some remarkable games you would have enjoyed and the rivalries back in 64-67 were enormous. The most remerable game I was involved in happened in 1966. We were AA then also. We were ranked number 2 in the state at the time. We ventured to Hite Field to tangle with WI on there homecoming night. Of course we were underdogs because they were ranked number 1 in WV in AAA at the time. Gary Reed father had just passed away that day and we dedicated our game to he and his family that night. Things went back and forth for a quarter or two. Then toward the end of the second Pete Bowie took a pitch around the corner for a touchdown. It was 7-0. We held them on the next posession forcing a punt. Their kicker bombed one to our 2 yard line. I played QB for the Tribe from 63-67 and Coach Jamison would let me call plays because he had the confidence in my decisions. On very first play of the drive I called a cross trap with Scooter Martin, Frank Zasloff and reeder leading the way. Larry Pumphrey jumped over one man at the 2 yard line and went 95 yards to their 2 then I ran it in on an option play. Tied 7-7. Enough play by play. To make a long story short, we upset WI 21-7 on their Homecoming night. Of course our team bus got rocked literrally by the WI fans and students. What a memory. More people in Bridgeport need to understand that our teams set the foundation for the success the Tribe is having now. Never forget.
