Bridgeport Presbyterian Makes Donation of Bags to City Fire Department to Help Support Children

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on April 22, 2026

The Outreach Committee and Mission Committee at Bridgeport Presbyterian Church recently donated 24 bags to the Bridgeport Fire Department.

The bags are for the fire department to distribute to children as they see fit and contain a snack, drink, book and stuffed animal, along with a note from the church.

The bags were blessed during a church service the week of the donation.

Members of the congregation donated the stuffed animals, while the Mission and Outreach commitees provided the snacks, drinks and books.

Deputy Chief Jacob Thompson, below far left, accepted the bags on behalf of the fire department. With Thompson are, from left, Outreach Committee Chair Deb Elderbrock, Pastor Steve Elderbrock and Mission Committee Chair Corey Yager.

"We here at Bridgeport Presbyterian Church are always looking for ways we can share the love of Christ beyond the walls of the church building. We hope that this effort will do that and also remind people in a difficult moment how much they are loved," Pastor Elderbrock said.

“The reception by the BFD of the children's toy and treat backpacks was as positive and warm as those of the church friends who donated them. It was heartwarming to hear from the fire fighting professionals that the bags will be staged and available in each service vehicle," Yager said.
