Bridgeport's Georgia Daniel Leading Effort to Aid the Harrison County Homeless and is Looking for Help

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on September 26, 2025

A Bridgeport resident is helping lead an effort to aid the homeless in Harrison County this coming winter and the organization she is working with needs your help.

Georgia Daniel, a lifelong Bridgeport resident is spending her retirement working with organizations in Harrison County which aid with the housing, feeding, clothing, and other support services for the homeless of Harrison and surrounding counties. The upcoming winter shelter, which will provide all of the above services to the unhoused at the First United Methodist Church in Clarksburg during the months of December through February has the most urgent needs at the present time.

Although First United Methodist Church has graciously allowed the shelter in their gym for the past three years, the current level of financial support from First United Methodist Church entirely is not sustainable. Consequently, the church applied for and has received two grants, which met 46 percent of the shelter budget. In order to meet the remaining budget, First United Methodist Church has agreed to match all donations, private or corporate, up to $20,000.

Thus, the needs are threefold. First, donations to meet our final budget. These donations can be made to FUMC/shelter, 117 N 2nd Street, Clarksburg, WV, 26330

Secondly, the group also needs to get the call out to local organizations and churches to volunteer to provide evening meals during shelter season for up to 40 .

Thirdly, the group needs individuals who may be interested in volunteering by coming in a few hours in the evening to help serve the meals.

Those interested in providing meals or volunteering to serve may contact Georgia Daniel by calling or texting @ 304 629-3072 or email @ georgiad1959@gmail.com.

It truly takes a community to successfully provide this much needed service to our unhoused population.
