For more than a quarter of a century, the City of Bridgeport has been involved with upgrading the sidewalks and overall look of its downtown corridor from the intersection with Virginia Avenue to Oliverio’s Ristorante.
Bridgeport has utilized grant programs, and matching dollars, to do millions in sidewalk repairs and decorative street light decorations. And they plan to keep the investment looking good.
Recently, the city put out to bid a project to clean approximately 59,800 square feet of concrete sidewalks and the sealing of approximately 8,800 square feet of decorative stamped concrete sidewalks.
“Those upgrades go back many years ago with the start of the downtown revitalization program,” said Interim City Manager Joe Shuttleworth. “The new lamp posts, the installation of new sidewalks, and the addition of red brick stamped concrete has given the downtown a nice look. It’s important that with what the city has invested that the appearance and quality be maintained.”
The largest portion of the project is the cleaning of the sidewalks. Shuttleworth said it will primarily be done by power washing the entire area.
As for the brick areas, they will receive a protective sealant as well. Shuttleworth said the sealant helps keep the stamped concrete in place and the color bright.
“That portion of the project is very labor intensive,” he said.
Although he did not have an estimate, he said the project will be in the tens of thousands of dollars. Bids will be accepted until 10 a.m. on Monday, May 1 at the office of the Bridgeport City Engineer. Bids will be read aloud at that time.
A non-mandatory pre-bid meeting will be held at the Bridgeport City Municipal Complex inside of Council Chambers, 515 West Main St., Bridgeport, WV at 10 a.m., Monday, April 13, 2026.
