GFWC Bridgeport, Lions Club and Bridgeport Fire Department to Hold Annual Food Drive for Shepherd's Corner

By Julie Perine on October 07, 2025

The GFWC Bridgeport Women’s Club will be working with the Bridgeport Lions Club and city Fire Department to collect food items from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday, Oct. 18.

“We’ve been doing this together for years now and it always works well,” said Ruth Allen of GFWC Bridgeport. “In past recent years, we’ve had high school students help us out and it has made it even more efficient. Last year, we were done with everything in just a couple of hours.”

Following is a list of needed items:

Non-perishable food items:
Peanut Butter
Jelly or Jam
Spaghetti sauce with meat
Canned pasta meals: Spaghetti, Ravioli, etc.
Canned fruits & applesauce
Pasta – spaghetti, noodles, penne, macaroni, etc.
Canned vegetables
Canned milk
Soups
Saltine crackers
Tea bags, coffee
Canned meats
Boxed potatoes
Macaroni and cheese
Pudding/fruit cups

Personal Care Items:
Shampoo
Bar soap/body wash
Toothpaste
Tooth brushes
Deodorant
Disposable razors
Sanitary products
Diapers for kids and adults

Items not covered by food stamps:
Laundry detergent
Cleaning supplies
Toilet tissue, tissues

Those who would like to contribute items should have the items by their mailbox or at the end of your driveway by 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18. Crews will be collecting items throughout approximately noon.

Alternatively, you can drop items off between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Bridgeport City Hall or at Bridgeport Fire Department.

In addition to food, personal care and cleaning items, cash donations will gladly be accepted and used to purchase perishable items such as meat, butter, bread and milk. Checks can be mailed to Shepherd’s Corner, P.O. Box 101, Bridgeport, WV 2330.

All donations will be distributed by Shepherd’s Corner to needy families in the area. Although the organization is busy year-round, needs are particularly high during the fall/winter months and holiday season.

The GFWC Woman's Club, Lions Club and Fire Department thanks residents in advance for participating.
