By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on November 13, 2025

Roy D. Williamson, 76, of Bridgeport, passed away Tuesday morning, November 11, 2025, in United Hospital Center surrounded by his family. He was born in Spencer, WV on April 7, 1949, son of the late Roy and Irene (Wells) Williamson.

He is survived by his wife and soul mate, Linda (Whited) Williamson, whom he married June 7, 1968.

Also surviving is his daughter, Kelly Ayoob and her husband Brian of Bridgeport, WV; two grandchildren, Thomas and Zachary Ayoob.

Preceding him in death besides his parents was his sister Betty (Williamson) Kennedy.

Roy was a graduate of Spencer High School and served in the US Army National Guards. He dedicated nearly 55 years of his life to the telephone business. He was currently the Senior Vice President, Outside Plant at CityNet. He served as a Senior Vice President of Operations at Fibernet, was part of the engineering department at Verizon, a supervisor at C & P Telephone Company and started his career at Bell Atlantic in 1970.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing all around the world. He was an active member of his community. He served as a volunteer fireman in the Spencer volunteer fire department and assisted in any way possible throughout his daughter’s school years. He was awarded for his loyalty and dedication to the city of Elkins through his involvement with the Mountain State Forest Festival and the Randolph County Parks and Recreational Board as well as his unselfish devotion and involvement with school bands in his community and his leadership skills as president of the Elkins High School Auxiliary. But most importantly he was a devoted grandfather and enjoyed being at the sidelines of every one of his grandkids events being one of their loudest cheerleaders and biggest supporters.

He will be remembered for his kind heart and steadfast work ethic.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the United Hospital Center 6 North, especially aide Jamie, for their exceptional care and compassion during his final weeks.

Family and friends will be received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Avenue, Bridgeport on Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm, where services will be held at 11am on Friday, November 14, 2025, with life long friend Dave Jacobs presiding, Interment will follow in Bridgeport Cemetery.
