City Police and Fire Respond to I-79 Rollover Accident

The Bridgeport Fire Department and the Bridgeport Police Department were on the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 79 that caused the response to go into Monday evening.
The accident, on the southbound side of I-79 near the 124-mile marker, saw the vehicle in question roll over. That area is near the southbound exit to Jerry Dove Drive.
According to Bridgeport Fire Department Lieutenant Keith Linger, the individual driving the vehicle was able to remove himself prior to the arrival of first responders. Linger said the individual sustained minor injuries.
“There were some minor bumps, bruises and some scrapes,” said Linger. “He refused transport to the hospital.”
The vehicle in question, a Toyota truck, landed off the roadway. However, before coming to rest following the rollover, the truck had struck two light poles as well as a road sign.
“The car appeared to be totaled,” said Linger.
Linger said the incident led to the Bridgeport first responders shutting down two lanes of traffic. The reason for that was the result of striking one of the new, and very large, traffic lights a bit harder than the other.
“One of the poles ended up laying in a travel lane, which led us to needing to shut down two of the three lanes in that area,” said Linger. “There were very minor traffic delays, very minor, as a result.”
The call came in at 5:58 p.m. Along with the two Bridgeport agencies mentioned above, the Bridgeport Fire Department’s EMS unit also responded along with the West Virginia Division of Highways, which had personnel on the scene.
Bridgeport Police are overseeing the investigation.
