City Resident, Bridgeport High School Graduate, Army Veteran, Jesse Garold Smith, Passes Away at 80

Jesse Garold Smith, 80, of Bridgeport, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025 at the Rosewood Center in Grafton, WV.  He was born on November 16, 1944 in Bridgeport, a son of the late Jesse W. and Vera Buckhannon Smith.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lee Shingleton Smith.
 
Mr. Smith was a member of the Summit Park Baptist Church in Clarksburg and was a graduate of Bridgeport High School.  He was a Veteran with the U.S. Army.  Jesse was a mechanic by trade and worked most of his career with the Bridgeport Auto Center.  Prior to his mechanical career he worked with Palace Furniture Company as a drapery installer and later with the Bridgeport Cemetery in the maintenance department.  Jesse was an excellent woodworker and enjoyed working with his hands.
 
Jesse is survived by his sister, Beverly (Roy) Fultineer of Charleston, WV, sister-in-law Carol Smith of Hepzibah, and his brother-in-law, Tom Shingleton of Bridgeport.  The family would like to give a special thank you to Barbie, Tommy, and Willie for the care they provided Jesse over the past several years.
 
In addition to his wife and parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his siblings: William Smith, Janice Smith, Irene Swoger, Larry Smith, Agnes Jean Smith, Sue Ann Fultineer, Barbara Marteny, and Shirley Fultineer.
 
The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, Allen Chapel, 215 East Main Street, Bridgeport, WV.  In accordance with his wishes, cremation services will take place.    A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 14, 2025 at 1PM with Reverend Tom Horn officiating where military rites will be held at the funeral home.  Family and friends may visit prior to the service from 11AM until 1PM.  Inurnment will be held privately at the W.V. National Cemetery in Pruntytown, WV.
