Community in Harrison County Evacuated as Result of Propane Leak over Weekend; Incident Lasted 2 Hours

According to WDTV, a section of Lost Creek was evacuated Saturday evening due to a propane leak.
Residents within a 330-foot radius of a local feed store — on Railroad Street, Short Street, Virginia Avenue and South Streetcar Way — were evacuated at approximately 6:30 p.m. after the owner of the store reported a propane leak, according to the Lost Creek Volunteer Fire Department.
Firefighters arrived on scene and found a leak in the pipe from the bottom of the propane tank, and despite the emergency shutoff being activated, the leak continued, officials said.
A 20% LEL reading on the gas monitor prompted the evacuation.
Southern States responded to off load the 252 gallons of propane and let the remaining vapor release from the tank, officials said.
The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department assisted fire officials in shutting down the roadways, and Anmoore EMS was on standby between DCs General Store and the post office. The incident took approximately two hours, fire officials said.
