Council Likely to Authorize Hiring of New IT Director for City During Tonight's Regular Meeting

The City of Bridgeport’s IT Department could have a new leader later today.
City Council will consider giving authorization to interim City Manager Joe Shuttleworth to hire an IT Director during tonight’s regular meeting.
The city’s most recent IT Director, Josh Drummond, recently took a new job in Morgantown.
During the search for the new IT Director and Global Science Technology has provided as-needed services and will likely continue to do so for a little while.
Also at tonight’s meeting, Council is expected to approve a revision to the 2024-25 general fund budget.
According to Finance Director Sharon Hinkle, the revision stems from the city receiving a number of payments, settlements and reimbursements.
A FEMA reimbursement of $11,825 will be used for training for the city’s fire department.
Additional training for the Bridgeport Police Department will be available thanks to a $15,000 settlement from the Lipitor price fixing lawsuit sent to the city from West Virginia Attorney General’s Office.
A $1,792 reimbursement payment from the City of Anmoore will be used to help the Public Works Department.
Other improvements for city departments from the sale of fixed assets and insurance reimbursement include a boat engine for the fire department, a salt spreader for Public Works and drones for Emergency Services.
The only other new business item on tonight’s agenda will see Council consider a preliminary approval for an alley abandonment request on Newton Avenue.
There is one item under unfinished business for Council to take care of with the consideration and likely approval of the city’s salary ordinance for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
