Demolition of Leeson's Import Motors Storage Building Moving at Full Throttle; Traffic Flow Already Impacted

By Jeff Toquinto on January 08, 2026

Although contractors arrived on the site of the fire-destroyed Leeson’s Import Motors storage building on Main Street in December to start the foundation to demolish it, heavy work began today.

Bridgeport Public Works Director Tiny Grimes said the contractor, which is B&K Land Works, which is out of Tunnelton in Preston County, has started. The multi-story structure, which suffered considerable damage in a fire March 23, was determined not be able to be salvaged. The company acquired the permit to do the work late in 2025.

The permit was for $45,000.

“They have started in the back, and they are going toward Main Street. There will be some traffic delays because of the work,” said Grimes. “For those individuals in a hurry, going an alternate route and avoiding that area of Main Street could save you some time.”

The exact period to finish the demolition is unknown. Typically, demolitions can be done in a few days. This one, due to its location, will not be of that duration.

“This demo will probably take longer than a normal demolition due to the restrictions of the railroad being behind the building and then Route 50, or our Main Street, being in front of the building,” said Bridgeport Community Development Director Andrea Kerr in December after t “They will have to take that building down, almost, brick by brick from the top down. It’s not going to be a fast process.”

Although an official time period for competition is unknown, it could take until February, officials have said. What’s next is also not nailed down.

Leeson Motors Vice President John Leeson told The Exponent Telegram there were no definite plans for the spot. However, he added he would like to see another storage building, or warehouse, go in the same footprint.
