Familiar Name on Restaurant Scene Opens New Area Eatery Featuring Heavy Made-from-Scratch Menu

By Jeff Toquinto on December 01, 2025

To say that David Bonasso was born into the food industry is not hyperbole. His late father, Louis, was the owner and operator of nearly a dozen KFC stores at the time they were still called Kentucky Fried Chicken, including locations in Bridgeport and Clarksburg.

“I’ve been around this my entire life,” Bonasso said. “I started young and have been working in it now for 45 years.”

The time in the business has not been him settled in one place. Instead, it is a well-traveled road with many forks that has recently led him to opening his own business in Clarksburg, which is off to a strong start with glowing reviews.

Bonasso is the owner of B’s Pizzeria in Clarksburg. It is located on Fourth Street in the Glen Elk community, across the street from Tomaro’s Bakery.

Bonasso is well-known when it comes to his work from the kitchen on the local scene. He got his official start by going to the Pennsylvania Culinary School in 1991.

“I went there with (Muriale’s owner and Bridgeport resident) Scott Duarte,” said Bonasso.

After his time there, he headed to Wayne County where he hooked up with another Muriale – Rocco Sam Muriale and worked at the other Muriale’s Restaurant well down south that today is known as Rocco’s Ristorante. He spent roughly a decade there.

That stint was followed by one of his most unique experiences ever. In 1996, Bonasso was a chef at the Olympics in Atlanta.

“Not too many people can say they fed the entire world,” said Bonasso with a laugh. “I was the chef in the Olympic Village, feeding about 15,000 people a day working with Aramark (Food Services).”

In between there was work at the famous Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina. While out of state, he also operated his own pizza shop, worked for other pizzerias as well. He also served in a consulting capacity for other food outlets while working.

“Eventually, Scott and I reunited after that time and I went back to working with him at Mia Margherita,” said Bonasso, who also helped run the food service at one time at the Bridgeport Country Club. “I was there on and off for seven years, and it set the stage for where I’m at right about now.”

Another key factor for the opening of B’s Pizzeria came after being off work for a period recovering from surgery. He decided it was time to make a move again.

“I had time to think,” said Bonasso. “I decided it was time to go out and do something I love. It’s not work if you love it, and I love what I’m doing.”

He loves it despite having days that have been busy from open to close. Even the pizzeria’s soft opening Sept. 28 saw a sizable crowd.

“Along with regular help, it’s myself and Aaron Starr,” said Bonasso. “So far, what we’ve been doing has been very well received. Most come in here and leave happy, but the biggest thing we’ve seen that is a positive is a lot of repeat customers.”

What are those customers getting? Pizza, of course, (Bonasso recommends giving the white pizza a try) and a whole lot more. Their take on the Giovanni is called the “Jabroni.” The have a hot Italian sandwich, antipasto salads, and a full range of additional salads, along with fritti puffs. Bonasso said more desserts will be added to the menu.

For those wondering, Bonasso said most of the products, including the dough and peppers, are made from scratch apart from the hoagie rolls purchased from Tomaro’s.

B’s Pizzeria’s address is 410 North Fourth Street, Clarksburg. The phone numbers to call are   304-918-9010. The hours are Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday. Saturday hours are 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
