Interstate 79 Southbound Wreck North of City Results in Vehicle Going off Road over Embankment 70 Feet

Emergency personnel responded to an accident on Interstate 79 Sunday morning that saw a vehicle go off the roadway and over an embankment.
The call came in from 911 at 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, August 2. The accident was in the southbound lane of I-79 near the 133 mile marker. The initial call was for entrapment with the driver unconscious.
Upon arrival, first responders from the Valley Volunteer Fire Department found the vehicle had went over an embankment approximately 70 feet into what was a heavily wooded area.
Those arriving on the scene quickly determined that the driver and two patients had escaped from the vehicle. Marion County rescue squad then evaluated those in the vehicle and, fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Due to the area of the vehicle, Hawkins Towing was called in for its recovery. Valley Volunteer Fire Department staff assisted in the recovery of the vehicle. Fire personnel were on the scene for three and a half hours before returning to service.
