Meadowbrook Mall Sees Recreational Venue Close its Doors after Being in Business for Six and a Half Years

By Jeff Toquinto on July 07, 2026

A recreational and family business at Bridgeport’s retail hub has ceased operations in recent weeks, Meadowbrook Mall Property Manager Robin Urquhart has confirmed.

Planet X Laser Tag is no longer in operation. Urquhart did not have an exact date of closure but did say in was within the past several weeks.

Planet X opened its doors in late 2019. The focus, as noted above, was on children and their families.

A big feature of the venue, along with the laser tag arena that headlined the business moniker, were virtual reality booths. It also included multiple arcade games and other attractions.

The space is another that recently came open after the closure earlier this year of Hibbet Sports. You can read about that closure HERE.

Closures and openings in waves are not unusual at malls and shopping plazas. Meadowbrook Mall, however, is one of the few malls nationally that has more than outlived the lifespan of a mall listed as low as 25 years to as high as 40 years. Meadowbrook Mall opened in 1982.

Planet X’s location should be a desirable one. Situated near Showtime Music, it is close to the mall’s newest anchor store, Boscov’s. Urquhart is confident the space will be filled.

“We’re working filling a handful of spaces right now, and we’re confident we’ll fill them soon, including this space,” said Urquhart. “Anytime you’re dealing with negotiating leases for possible new businesses, it just takes a little bit of time.”
