Bridgeport High School Principal Renee' Mathews has announced that Presley Veltri and William Northey are the August, 2025 Students of the Month. Below is a profile of each student.
Presley Veltri is the daughter of Mark and Meredith Veltri. She has two younger siblings Sean Veltri, 16, and Vaughn Veltri, 11. Presley has
been a perfect honor roll student every semester at BHS, receiving her academic letters and lamps each year for her success and hard work. Presley currently serves as Senior Class President which she also served as her freshman year. She was honored to be inducted into Bridgeport High School’s National Honor Society her Junior Year. She is enrolled in various Dual Enrollment classes and hopes to earn all college credits for graduation in May.
Presley is an active member of Bridgeport High School and in her community. She has worked hard on the events she helped put on through Student Council such as class floats, running Homecoming events, fundraising, and being chairman for the junior/senior prom court dance. Presley received the “Outstanding Student Council Member” as recognition for her work. This year, Presley serves on the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Leadership team where they encourage and share the gospel with their peers. Presley’s also a member of the BHS Marching Band where she serves as the banner carrier. At BHS, Presley has been involved in clubs such as Key Club, French Club, and an Executive Board member for student council. Presley has been so fortunate to work with various community service organizations such as Shepherds Corner, Humane Society, Stonerise Nursing Home, The Mission, and Our Lady Perpetual Help Vacation Bible School.
Presley is a four-year member of the BHS Dance Team where they have won numerous awards at competitions. Outside of school, she advances her dance technique at the studio Morgantown Dance. Presley was also a member of the BHS Track Team her freshman year as a qualifier for the State Championship in the 4X800. She was selected this year as the 2025 Bridgeport High School Homecoming Queen and is extremely grateful to be chosen for this honor by her peers.
In the summer Presley enjoys babysitting. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with close friends and family. She also enjoys attending Youth Group at Horizons Church. Presley is excited about the future ahead but hopes to make the most of these last few months at Bridgeport High School.
In the fall, she plans to study Exercise Physiology and also further her passion for dance. At the present time she is unsure about her college selection.
William Northey is the son of Melissa and Jeff Northey and brother of current BHS sophomore Graham Northey. He is a senior at Bridgeport High School and a member of the class of 2026.
William is very involved in sports at BHS. He has been a part of the Cross Country and Track & Field teams for his entire time at BHS, qualifying for the state meet twice in Track and making second team all-state in Cross Country his junior year.
He is also a member of several clubs at BHS. William has been on Bridgeport High School’s Academic Teams all four years, has qualified for the Academic Showdown state competition twice, and hopes to qualify again this year. He is the Secretary of the BHS Model United Nations Club, where he participates in conferences that mimic the structure of the real United Nations. He has been an active member of BHS Key Club since his sophomore year, volunteering in the community. He was recently inducted into the BHS chapter of both the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish Honor Society) and National Honor Society, through which he participates in service projects in the area.
William is eager to learn, and academics have always been a priority for him. He has received academic lamps and letters every year at BHS, and he will have taken 9 of the AP classes offered at BHS by the end of his senior year. These include AP Calculus AB/BC and AP US History, which he took his junior year, and AP Chemistry and AP US Government & Politics, in which he is currently enrolled.
This summer, William was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to attend the American Legion Mountaineer Boys State, a prestigious leadership academy. He was elected Governor and attended the camp’s trip to West Virginia’s capital building, which included the privilege of interacting with political leaders in the state’s government. The experience affirmed his belief that he wants to serve this country through political leadership one day.
William plans to attend college after high school. He plans to study pre-law and eventually run for public office. He was homeschooled until his freshman year and greatly appreciates the teachers, coaches, and administrators who welcomed him into the BHS community. He is excited for the rest of his senior year and all that comes with it.
