Ribbon Cutting, Opening Dates are Set for Near $30M Vandalia Health Mon Harrison Hospital in Bridgeport

In less than a month, a long-awaited project in Bridgeport that will serve the city, Harrison County and beyond will be open for business.
Dr. Christopher Edwards, the Chief Administrative Officer of Vandalia Health Mon Marion and Vandalia Health Mon Harrison Neighborhood Hospitals (formerly Mon-Harrison Neighborhood Hospital), said that official operation at the site at the Charles Pointe Crossing Development is set for Sept. 29. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held a week prior on Sept. 22.
“It is 98 percent complete,” said Edwards. “The final push is this week. We
have the State Fire Marshal scheduled to come in (today) to allow us to be issued a grant of occupancy permit with all major construction complete. We expect that to occur.”

Once that happens, the next step to get the $25 million-plus building ready for it to be operational begins next week. Edwards said the plan is to start moving in equipment the first of next week.
Although announced much earlier, the building permit for the facility was issued in April of 2025. That came after a Certificate of Need for the healthcare facility was filed with the state in July of 2022.
The nearly $30 million facility is a two-story, 40,000 square-foot state-of-the-art small format hospital, modeled after the successful Vandalia Health Mon Marion Neighborhood Hospital, which opened in White Hall in 2022.
The first floor of the hospital located off Jerry Dove Drive will feature 24/7 emergency care, including eight emergency rooms; board-
certified physicians; comprehensive inpatient care, including 10 private inpatient rooms; pharmacy services; and advanced radiology services, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, X-ray, echocardiogram and more. The second floor will be constructed as shell space reserved for future clinical or administrative expansion, designed to address future needs of the community.

Along with the second floor available for expansion, Vandalia has prepared for growth – if needed – beyond that.
“We own acreage around the facility itself,” said Edwards when asked about expansion past filling the second floor.
Staffing is essentially managed to address the work that will be done on the first floor. Doctors, nurses, and staff will fill the building soon.
“Nursing has been challenging, but that is an issue nationwide so that was not a surprise,” said Edwards. “We’ve filled a large majority of other positions, including physicians. We hired a few physicians last year with a plan for them to be here. In this field, the recruiting of personnel never stops.”
The work since it began in 2025 has also been nonstop. Recently, Edwards joined a walk-through of the building with top Vandalia and contractor officials. He had high praise for the contractor March-Westin for its work.
“I can’t say enough great things about them,” said Edwards, a Clarksburg native and Washington Irving graduate. “I also can’t say enough about how excited everyone is for this project.
“The most important thing, for us, is to provide people with choice and access for health care,” Edwards continued. “I personally believe when we offer choice and access it provides and improves quality across the board for all medical facilities.”
