Secretary of State Kris Warner Visits Cubby's Daycare Center to Discuss Challenges Childcare Centers Face

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on January 09, 2026

WV Secretary of State Kris Warner visited Cubby's Daycare Center in Bridgeport Thursday afternoon to tour the state-of-the art daycare center which accommodates over 600 students from a seven-county area.

Owner Jennifer Trippett and members of her staff, Secretary Warner and other legislators and community representatives in attendance discussed the challenges that daycare centers are facing including the number of students who are on waiting lists because there aren't enough centers or staff to fill them.

Daycare is a critical issue in dealing with West Virginia's low workforce participate rate.  And affordable and available daycare is critical to any economic development strategy.  Secretary Warner wants to do his part to help the legislature find solutions to address the challenges facing childcare in West Virginia.

According to a recent study, 41% of West Virginia children under the age of 6 cannot find childcare.

More information on the challenges facing West Virginia child care providers can be found at this link: https://wvayc.org/champions/
