The Bridgeport Police were involved in a Thanksgiving Day high-speed pursuit that went through multiple sections of Harrison County before the suspect was apprehended near Harry Green 7 Acres on Bridgeport Hill.
According to Police Chief Mark Rogers, Charles Roach, 18, of Fairmont is the individual who was arrested at gunpoint by law enforcement.
Initially, Roach was clocked doing 92 miles per hour on Interstate 79 southbound near the Jerry Dove Drive exit. Roach exited into the I-79 rest area in that direction, but ended up heading back to the interstate.
Following that, Roach drove into areas such as Quiet Dell, Nutter Fort, and to the area of Columbia Boulevard in Clarksburg. It was near Columbia Boulevard where Roach’s vehicle hit spike strips laid out by Clarksburg Police.
According to MetroNews, Roach had a .98 blood-alcohol and was taken to United Hospital Center for a blood draw. He has been charged to fleeing with reckless indifference.
Roach entered a not guilty plea.
“In situations like this, officers treat the scenario with the regard for their own lives and others who may be around,” said Rogers. “An arrest at gunpoint is standard in situations such as this.”
Rogers said Bridgeport Police Officer Nick Fiber is the lead officer on the case.
