Two Individuals Extricated, Three Require Transport for Medical Treatment after I-79 Wreck in Bridgeport

A Monday afternoon accident on Interstate 79 in Bridgeport involving two vehicles saw fire personnel needing to extricate two individuals from one of the vehicles involved.
The call went out at 3:01 a.m. Monday, April 6. The Harrison County 911 call listed it as a motor vehicle accident with injuries.
Upon arrival, fire personnel confirmed the accident. They also confirmed that there were two individuals in one of the vehicles that needed to be extricated.
“They were in the vehicle for approximately 10 to 12 minutes before they were able to be removed,” said Bridgeport Fire Chief Greg Pigg.
Emergency personnel transported both individuals in that vehicle. One of the two individuals inside the other vehicle was transported, while the other individual signed off on treatment. All three individuals were taken to Mon Health Primary Care Center in Fairmont for treatment.
“The injuries were not life-threatening,” said Pigg.
Pigg said the vehicle that had the individuals entrapped, which he said was a Jeep SUV, was almost certainly a total loss. The other vehicle, 
he said, had moderate damage.

The accident on I-79 took place in the southbound lane. Pigg said is was just prior to the 120 mile marker, which is just past the Meadowbrook Mall on ramp and near the Clarksburg city limits.
The Clarksburg Fire Department also assisted on the scene. Their presence is part of the mutual aid agreement between the two cities. The West Virginia State Police and Harrison County EMS helped as well.
Pigg said traffic was slow, but it did not stop in the area. He said once the individuals were removed, the roadway quickly cleared.
The Bridgeport Police Department is overseeing the investigation.
