Update: City Officials Say Benedum Drive, in Area of The Bridge, Reopen to Traffic after Morning Accident

By Jeff Toquinto on December 02, 2025

UPDATE: Bridgeport Emergency Management Director Tim Curry has confirmed that the roadway on Benedum Drive near Forrester Boulevard has reopened to traffic.

ORIGINAL: Bridgeport officials are asking motorists to avoid the area of Benedum Drive near Forrester Boulevard, which is the roadway that leads to The Bridge Sports and Recreation Complex.

A recent text from the city states that the roadway is closed due to a power line being down.

Bridgeport Fire Department Chief Gregg Pigg said the lines are down due to an accident. The accident, he said, snapped a utility pole completely in half.

The first call for a wreck on Benedum Drive came in at 8:25 a.m. The Bridgeport Police Department and the Bridgeport Fire Department arrived on the scene. A second call came in at 8:26 a.m. for a wreck on Benedum Drive, It is unknown if it is the same wreck, but due to the poor conditions of the roads due to inclement weather, it is possible that there were two accidents.

Early reports were that there were no transports. However, that could not be confirmed.

Officials did not have an estimated time for the road to be open again to traffic.
