Web Site Listing 10 State Italian Bakeries Keeping Old Traditions Alive is North Central West Virginia Heavy

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on June 02, 2026

A national Web site has came up with a list of "10 Italian Bakeries In West Virginia Keeping Century-Old Traditions Alive" and, as it should, it is not only heavy on North Central West Virginia, but heavy on Harrison County as well.

The Website myfamilytravels.com released the list late last month. The My Family Travels Websited "has provided trusted vacation planning resources for traveling the world with kids since 1996," according to the "About Us" portion of the Website.

It begins as follows:

Let’s get this dough started.

I walked into one of these bakeries and a man behind the counter handed me a warm pepperoni roll wrapped in wax paper, no questions asked.

Just a smile and a piece of history.

These bakeries started with Italian immigrants who traded pasta for pickaxes, then figured out how to feed hungry coal miners something portable and delicious.

Click HERE for the rest of the story and the list of 10 bakeries.

Editor's Note: Cover photo is of a fresh D'Annunzio's pepperoni roll loaded to the hilt. Photo is courtesy of Gary Keith II.
