With Clarksburg Seeing Bevy of Infrastructure Work, Bridge Lane Closure to Summer 2026 Added to Mix

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on November 04, 2025

FROM THE CITY OF CLARKSBURG

Beginning Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025, the 4th Street Bridge, which passes over U.S. Route 50 and Elk Creek, will undergo a rehabilitation project administered and funded by the West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH), District 4.

It is a $2.57 million dollar project. It will last until the summer of 2026 and will be 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Project details include:

  • Cleaning and painting of the bridge’s superstructure
  • Repairing and sealing the concrete deck and sidewalks
  • Repairing or replacing expansion joints
  • Installing ADA-compliant ramps where needed

Traffic impacts:

  • A temporary traffic signal will be installed, allowing one lane of traffic to remain open on 4th Street throughout the project.
  • U.S. Route 50 will experience periodic single-lane closures during cleaning and painting. These closures will be coordinated with the ongoing 2nd Street Bridge project to reduce overall disruption.

For safety, the Third Street exit from U.S. 50 Eastbound will need to close temporarily at times. During those closures, motorists will be detoured via the Chestnut Street eastbound exit to access Third Street and Downtown.

The City of Clarksburg appreciates your patience and cooperation during this important infrastructure improvement. We understand that multiple projects can be inconvenient, but these efforts are essential to enhancing our city’s roads and bridges.
