Area's Craziest Golf Tournament Scheduled for August as BCC to Host United Way's Annual Birdie Bash

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on July 19, 2025

The countdown is on for one of the most exciting and impactful golf events of the summer. On Monday, August 5th, eight teams of two will hit the fairways at Bridgeport Country Club for the annual Birdie Bash—a full day golf marathon and major fundraiser for the United Way of Harrison and Doddridge Counties.

The event kicks off at 8:00 AM and features a 10-hour Stableford-style competition, where players earn points based on performance against par. The format rewards bold play and strategic risk-taking, keeping the action intense and the leaderboard shifting all day long.

But the Birdie Bash is about more than just golf—it’s about giving back. Each team is also competing to raise the most money for the United Way of Harrison and Doddridge Counties, and the community is encouraged to get in on the fun by donating to support their favorite team or player. Every dollar raised goes directly toward programs that improve lives across Harrison and Doddridge Counties.

Christian Marsh, longtime organizer and former United Way HDC president, shared why the event continues to be so meaningful to him: “This event is about more than just golf—it’s about rallying our community to support neighbors in need. Every swing, every step, and every dollar raised helps create real change for families across our region.”

The United Way of Harrison and Doddridge Counties funds vital programs that support education, financial stability, and health—from helping children succeed in school to ensuring families have access to food, shelter, and mental health services. These funds are critical to sustaining and expanding that work.

As the day winds down, all teams will gather on the 9th tee to play the final hole together as one group, symbolizing the unifying spirit of the event. A celebration will follow, where awards will be presented to the team with the highest Stableford score and the individual who raises the most funds for the United Way HDC.

Martin Howe, Executive Director of the United Way, added with a smile, “The competition is fierce both on the course and in the fundraising! These teams bring their A-game in every way, and it’s incredible to see how much fun they have while making such a big impact.”
