Bridgeport Earns No. 1 Seed in Class AAA State Tournament, Will Face East Fairmont in Quarterfinals
By Michael Minnich on June 02, 2026
The wait, well, at least part of it, is over for the Bridgeport Indians.
Eight days after they defeated the Elkins Tigers to clinch one of two Class AAA Region II berths in the expanded state basketball tournament, the Tribe learned their path in a week's time to win a state championship.
As expected after a 30-4 season, Bridgeport is the No. 1 seed and will face a familiar foe, No. 8 East Fairmont, in a 10 a.m. quarterfinal at Marshall University's Jack Cook Field on Tuesday.
Bridgeport beat East Fairmont, 12-2, in five innings on April 14.
Jax McNally got the win on the mound, allowing a run on two hits with four strikeouts in four innings of work.
Brooks Vass and Owen Sondericker both homered, with Sondericker driving in four runs and Vass knocking in two and scoring a pair.
Anthony Julian went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI and Kasen Baun tripled and scored.
The Bridgeport-East Fairmont winner will face either defending Class AAA champ and No. 4 Ripley or No. 5 Spring Valley, who match up in Friday's second quarterfinal, on Friday, June 12 at 10 a.m.
St. Albans is the No. 2 seed and starts the evening session against No. 7 John Marshall at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, then No. 3 Shady Spring and No. 6 Robert C. Byrd finish off the night.
The state championship game is Saturday, June 13 at 5:30 p.m.
