Bridgeport High School Senior Josh Love Presented with His $1,000 Frank Loria Memorial Scholarship

By Connect-Bridgeport Staff on May 12, 2025

Bridgeport’s Joshua M. Love has received the 2025 Frank Loria Memorial Scholarship Academic Award, which is awarded annually by the Clarksburg Columbian Club as part of the Frank Loria Awards Banquet.

The Award is sponsored by David J. Romano of Romano Law Office, LC.  The Awards Banquet was held in March with many attendees and special guest speakers.  Prior to the banquet, Romano, scholarship chairman and sponsor, arranged for the applicants’ credentials to be reviewed and assessed for this year’s recipient. Love, a graduating Senior at Bridgeport High School, excelled not only on the gridiron but also in the classroom.

Romano said that all of applicants were highly qualified, but Love was quite an exceptional young man.  Love received his $1,000 scholarship and said the cash would go a long way in helping pay his college expenses for books and other materials needed to begin his college education.

Josh is the son of John and Julie Love. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a four-year member of the Academic Boosters with many other honors throughout his high school career.  Josh has been involved in sports all throughout high school.  He participated in football all four years, was a member of the baseball team his freshman and sophomore years, and a member of the track team his junior and senior years.

Josh had an outstanding football career with many accolades including 1st Team All State defensive aptain, Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year, 1st Team All Harrison County his junior and senior years with 2,832 rushing yards and 46 touchdowns.  At this year’s Loria Banquet, Josh received the Loria Player of the Year Award, the Academic Achievement Award and this Academic Scholarship Award, which is being discussed here.

His senior year, Josh attended Mountaineer Boy’s State and was elected as president of the senate.

Through the French Club, the National Honor Society and other organizations, Josh has dedicated many hours of his free time to community service including the Sleep in Heavenly Peace Project, Operation Christmas Child, NHS Volunteer Opportunities, and many other projects.

Josh plans to continue his academic career at West Virginia University and will study mechanical engineering.

The Frank Loria Academic Scholarship is presented each year at the Loria event.
