Bridgeport Keeps Unanimous Top Spot in MetroNews Class AAA Rankings

By Michael Minnich on April 28, 2026

After a 7-1 week that included multiple wins over ranked opponents, the Bridgeport Indians are the unanimous No. 1 team in Class AAA in the MetroNews power rankings for the second week in a row.

The poll is voted on by a panel of 10 radio broadcasters and sportswriters across the state.

Bridgeport (21-4 to enter the week) has all 100 possible votes, with Winfield (15-3, 84) second, St. Albans (18-5, 81) third, PikeView (19-3, 73) fourth, Spring Valley (14-7, 55) fifth, John Marshall (14-5, 40) sixth, Robert C. Byrd (16-5, 38) seventh, Shady Spring (14-5, 29) eighth, Ripley (10-8, 15) ninth and Grafton (14-5, 12) 10th.

Seven teams received votes in AAA, including East Fairmont (6) and regional foe Hampshire (2).

The top two teams in Class AAAA both were beaten by Bridgeport last week: Morgantown (17-3, 96 votes, seven first-place votes) and Jefferson (17-5, 92, three first-place votes), though the Cougars did take the first game of a Saturday doubleheader from the Tribe.

George Washington (15-4, 78), Hurricane (15-6, 72) and Cabell Midland (15-9, 56) round out the top five.

Big 10 opponent Buckhannon-Upshur received six votes.

Wheeling Central (14-4) is the unanimous pick in Class AA with 100 votes and Charleston Catholic (14-5, 90) got all the second-place votes as well.

Wyoming East (15-3, 76), Williamstown (15-10, 68) and Independence (15-6, 53) complete the top five.

Doddridge County (15-5), which was No. 1 in the season's first poll, is now ninth with 25 votes, while Lincoln (7) and South Harrison (1) received votes.

Class A also has a unanimous No. 1 in St. Joseph's (20-2, 100 votes).

East Hardy (12-5, 85), Sherman (14-6, 76), Gilmer County (20-3, 73) and Cameron (17-4, 66) are the other top-5 teams.
