Bridgeport Retains Unanimous No. 1 Spot in MetroNews Baseball Rankings

For the third week in a row, the Bridgeport Indians are the unanimous No. 1 team in Class AAA in the MetroNews high school baseball rankings.
 
The poll is voted upon weekly by a panel of 10 radio broadcasters and sports writers across West Virginia.
 
Bridgeport, with a 23-4 record to enter the week, has all 100 possible votes, while Winfield (19-3) received every second-place vote but one to pick up 89 votes.
 
St. Albans (20-5, 80) is third, with Shady Spring (18-5, 61) and Spring Valley (16-8, 60) completing the top five.
 
Then, it’s PikeView (20-5, 54), Robert C. Byrd (17-7, 26), John Marshall (16-9, 25), Grafton (16-6, 17) and Ripley (12-10, 15).
 
Also receiving votes were Nicholas County (10), East Fairmont (9), Herbert Hoover (2) and Point Pleasant (2).
 
One of Bridgeport’s opponents this week, Morgantown, is No. 1 in Class AAAA with a 20-4 record, four first-place votes and 92 total votes.
 
George Washington (19-4, 88, three first-place votes) and Jefferson (18-5, 87, three first-place votes) are right behind the Mohigans.
 
Buckhannon-Upshur received four votes.
 
Wheeling Central (17-4) is the unanimous No. 1 in Class AA, trailed by Sissonville (16-5, 78) and Wyoming East (16-4, 70).
 
Doddridge County (20-5, 54) is sixth and South Harrison (4) and Lincoln (3) received votes.
 
Class A is led by a unanimous No. 1 as well in Huntington St. Joseph (24-2), with Sherman (19-6, 84) and East Hardy (13-6, 80) in second and third.
