Bridgeport Softball Debuts at No. 9 in 1st MetroNews Coaches Poll

A strong start by the Bridgeport softball team has drawn the attention of the state’s coaches.
The Indians are ranked ninth in Class AAA in the MetroNews high school softball coaches poll, which will be released on Mondays.
Bridgeport, 4-1 at the time of the poll, picked up 25 points from the 11 coaches that voted.
Winfield (8-2) is first with 106 points and eight first-place votes, followed by John Marshall (12-2) with 97 points and two first-place votes.
Keyser (8-1) received the other first-place vote and 86 points, then Herbert Hoover (7-3, 71), Point Pleasant (7-3, 61), Lincoln County (5-1, 50), PikeView (7-1, 48) and Lewis County (6-1, 34) are ahead of the Tribe.
St. Albans (12) completes the top 10; Spring Valley (10), Fairmont Senior (3) and Princeton (2) also received votes.
Cabell Midland (9-0, 110 points) is the unanimous No. 1 in Class AAAA, with University (8-1) second and Morgantown (8-3) third.
Scott (11-1, four first-place votes, 101 points) is first in Class AA despite receiving fewer first-place votes than No. 2 Sissonville (9-1, five first-place votes, 99); Lincoln (4-0, 34) is ninth locally and Doddridge County received nine votes.
Gilmer County (10-0, 110) received all the first-place votes in Class A, with Sherman (84) second.
