By Michael Minnich on August 04, 2026
The road to more championships at Bridgeport begins with one step and the fall teams took those first strides on Monday, beginning their official practices after an offseason of hard work.
The Tribe football teams are practicing in the mornings and have a turnout of 59 players.
Across the bridge at Bridgeport City Park, the girls cross country team began its Class AAA title defense in the morning with 16 attendees, while the boys cross country team, state qualifers last year, had 13 runners.
On the other side of town at Bridgeport Country Club, 20 players tried out for the BHS golf team, with the varsity roster likely to be 12-14 players.
Indoors in the afternoon, the BHS volleyball team had 24 players attend tryouts.
The Bridgeport boys soccer team, state champions for the first time last year, had 36 players attend their first early-evening session, while the Tribe girls soccer team followed with 34 players at their night session.
A story and information on cheerleading will appear on Connect-Bridgeport.com in the days ahead as they will have their squad selected.
