Bridgeport's Stavrakis Named Big 10 Conference Pitcher of the Year; Shields Selected as Top Coach

Bridgeport’s Jacob Stavrakis has been named the Big 10 Conference Pitcher of the Year and Robert Shields has been selected as the Big 10 Coach of the Year as part of the all-Big 10 Conference Baseball Team.
 
The team is selected by the Big 10 coaches.
 
Stavrakis went 7-2 with one save, an ERA of 1.66 and 38 strikeouts in 55 innings. He also hit .333 and led the team in homers with two and RBIs with 38.
 
The Indians, who finished the year 16-10, also had three players earn first-team honors in Carson Currey as an infielder, Owen Sondericker as an infielder and Luke Rohrig as an outfielder.
Two more on second team in Michael Romano at a utility spot and Kasen Baun as an infielder.
 
Currey had the top batting average for BHS at .395, hit 13 doubles, one triple, one home run and drove in 24. Sondericker hit .302 with one homer and 27 RBIs. Rohrig batted .376 with 1 homer, 18 RBIs and scored 30 runs.
 
Romano hit .319, scored 33 runs and stole a team-best 24 bases. Baun hit .301 with one home run and 19 RBIs.
 
Robert C. Byrd’s Cooper Floyd was named the Big 10 Player of the Year. He hit .488 with five home runs and 46 runs.
