More than a Year Later, Bridgeport High's AAA Boys Hoops Crown Still Producing Recognition for Program

By Jeff Toquinto on May 29, 2026

More than a year after capturing the Class AAA state championship in boys basketball from the 2024-2025 season, the dividends keep on coming for Bridgeport High School.

The latest example came on Wednesday evening, May 27. At a meeting of Bridgeport City Council (moved from Monday to accommodate Memorial Day), Indians Coach Dave Marshall was recognized by the city’s governing body.

The recognition was for being named the 2024–25 National Boys Basketball Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations. Marshall is one of the few coaches in the state to have titles in two sports – his being in boys and girls basketball, and both while teaching and coaching at BHS.

Council member Chris Kinney, a friend of Marshall, presented him with his recognition. Marshall was joined by Mayor Robert Matheny and Interim City Manager Joe Shuttleworth shortly after the presentation.
