Tending Community: BFM2 Kicks off 2026 Season with Success

By Perris Reed on May 19, 2026 from Tending Community

The Bridgeport Farmers and Makers Market officially kicked off its 2026 season this past Sunday, May 17, with a wonderful opening day full of familiar faces, new visitors, and an incredible sense of community.

Despite a little rain at the start of the morning, the clouds quickly cleared and gave way to a beautiful sunshine-filled afternoon that brought neighbors, families, and friends together.  The energy throughout the market was warm, welcoming, and exciting as shoppers explored local produce, handmade goods, baked treats, artisan crafts, and more.

One of the biggest highlights of opening day was the Kids’ Corner sponsored by Medbrook Children’s Charity. Families filled the area throughout the day, and it quickly became such a joyful space at the market. Seeing children engage with activities while parents shopped and gathered with friends truly captured the spirit of what BFM2 hopes to create each Sunday — a community-centered experience that offers something for everyone.

Another exciting addition this year was the communal dining tent sponsored by the Wonderbar Steak House. The tent was consistently full throughout the day as visitors sat together enjoying lunch, coffee, conversation, and live music. It created a welcoming atmosphere that encouraged people to slow down, stay awhile, and connect with one another. Based on the incredible response from opening day alone, we already foresee this area expanding in the near future.

The market also welcomed many new vendors this season, several of whom shared how meaningful the experience was for them.

“My experience with BFM2 has been one of embrace and renewal,” said Mike Ray, owner of West Fork Pottery. “Each market allows us an opportunity to allow this space together to build rhythm as a community in wholeness. As an ‘OG’ craft vendor, I am grateful for each opportunity to serve the needs of my neighbors and friends at the Bridgeport Farmers and Makers Market.”

Emily Hill, owner of Meadow and Moss and a first-year vendor, shared a similar sentiment.

“As a first-year vendor, the Bridgeport Farmers and Makers Market community has made me feel so welcomed and at ease,” Hill said. “From the one-on-one communication to the individual promotions, it is evident they strive to bring something wonderful to the community while supporting their vendors. I am grateful to have this space to share my art with Bridgeport and the surrounding areas.”

Opening day served as a reminder that BFM2 is about much more than shopping local. It is about creating a place where community members can gather, connect, support one another, and celebrate the creativity and hard work happening across our region.
