The Grapevine: Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library's Bookmobile a Big Hit at Clarksburg Farmers Market

By Rosalyn Queen on May 15, 2025 from The Grapevine

The Clarksburg Farmers Market had its official opening on Saturday, May 10.  It is located in the parking lot of Farmers Supply on Emily Drive and will be in operation every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (The Bridgeport Farmer’s Market opens this Sunday).

There are many different vendors offering a variety of plants and vegetables and other food stuff.  One of the most popular vendors was the flower booth that offered pots of flowers for Mother’s Day.

Many visitors were anxious to get fresh rhubarb.  A variety of spice plants were available, which included basil and parsley. Another popular item was fresh local honey and jams and jellies.  One vendor offered bags of fresh lettuce as well as greens for cooking.  There were also vendors offering homemade desserts and pepperoni rolls as well as cheese.

A popular attraction on this opening day was the Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library Bookmobile. Staff from the library were there to pass out free books to the children and each child selected a flower for their mother for Mother’s Day.  The staff helped the child transplant the flower into a teacup.

It is the hope of the CFM Board and the library staff that this might interest children in learning to garden and, of course, the free book is an incentive for children to keep reading through the summer vacation. The library offers many programs for children especially in the summer.  All children were invited to visit the library.  The Bookmobile travels throughout Harrison County offering services to those who cannot make it to the library.  Contact the library for a schedule of its stops.

The CFM board was most excited to have a nice crowd on opening day and encouraged individuals to visit the market to get fresh produce and to support local vendors.

Get ready for summer.  Make a place outdoors for sitting and enjoying the weather and until next week “Now You Have Heard It Through The Grapevine.”

Editor's Note: Pictured, from left, in front of the Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library Bookmobile are Bill Yoke, Clarksburg Farmers Market treasurer; Emily Mottesheard, Clarksburg Public Library Outreach Manager; and Erica Perry, Children’s Librarian.
