The Grapevine: Health Right Kitchen Coming to Area on October 5 with Free Lessons on Meal Preparation

By Rosalyn Queen on September 11, 2025 from The Grapevine

Visitors to the Clarksburg Farmers Market on Saturday, Oct. 4 will be treated to a special visit by the West Virginia Health Right Cooking Trailer. President Betty Waddy and Treasurer Bill Yoke of the Clarksburg Farmers Market have announced that plans for this event have been completed.

This mobile teaching kitchen represents the kind of innovative community approach that can help tackle chronic illnesses and increase access to practical nutrition, education, and preventive care. The teaching kitchen is a way to support the mission to make West Virginia healthy again.

The kitchen will show families how to prepare healthy meals and understand nutrition and the vital role that food choices play in overall health. “The Health Right kitchen is giving West Virginia residents the tools they need to build stronger, healthier futures,” said West Virginia First Lady Denise Morrissey.

It is the goal of the Health Right committee to make health education accessible, and to bring food as medicine directly into neighborhoods, community events, and nontraditional healthcare settings in West Virginia The mobile kitchen is a fully equipped unit designed to bring healthy cooking education directly to communities across West Virginia. The program aims to demonstrate nutritious recipes, promote preventive health screenings, and connect residents with West Virginia Health Right’s comprehensive healthcare services.

All visitors to the Farmers Market will have the opportunity to participate in classroom presentation of food preparation. The vendors at the farmers market will welcome the teaching trailer to help promote homegrown vegetables and fruit that they offer to the public.

Yoke encourages all visitors to the Farmers Market to take advantage of this class to learn new ways to prepare vegetables for their families. Yoke said, “We are certainly fortunate to have been able to secure the West Virginia Health Right mobile teaching kitchen. The board of directors continues to support local vendors at the farmers market and is most happy to be able to sponsor programs like this for Harrison County residents .”

The last farmers market for the season in Clarksburg will be Saturday, Oct. 11. It is held in the Tractor Supply parking lot on Emily Drive at Eastpointe.
