Job Summary & Qualifications:
The City of Bridgeport is accepting applications for full-time Custodian positions. This position is responsible for the cleanliness of the City Municipal Building and the Bridgeport Public Library. This position is primarily afternoon shifts Monday – Friday.
Duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following: Performs general cleaning and janitorial duties in the common areas of the building; Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tidying furniture and dusting surfaces; Wash and sanitize toilets, sinks and showers and restock disposables (paper towels, soap, etc.); Wipe mirrors and windows; Sweep and mop floors; Vacuum carpets often, occasionally shampoo carpets. Refresh, rejuvenate bathrooms daily; Assist in deep cleaning areas as needed; Ensure heating and cooling systems are operational; Maintain a neat and orderly janitor supply room; ensures cleaning and maintenance supplies are stocked; Assist in examining buildings and grounds for safety hazards; reports deficiencies and major damages to supervisor; Assist in cleaning after events and preparing areas for normal use; Perform limited grounds and building maintenance.
The applicant must be a competent and energetic candidate who is able to and show initiative and work both independently and on a team. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Previous custodian experience is preferred.
