25th Anniversary WV Botanic Garden Day is Saturday

By Julie Perine on May 09, 2025

Featuring 85 acres of lush nature, eight gardens and 4.5 miles of walking trails, the WV Botanic Garden is hosting a 25th anniversary event on Saturday, May 10.

“This will be the fifth year that we’ve done WV Botanic Garden Day, but this being our silver anniversary, we are going to be playing off that theme,” said Jasmine Allison, Visitors Center Manager.

As always, the Botanic Garden is open dawn to dusk, but between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, there will be live music, kids’ activities, an on-site food truck, and more.

Bluegrass music by Wayfaring will be playing between 11-1 on the main lawn area.

“There is no charge to attend, and we encourage everyone to bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the band,” Allison said.

Kids’ activities include nature crafts, lawn games, a scavenger hunt, and more.

“Abbigail is our activities director, and she has some good stuff planned, including a silver scratch foil craft,” Allison said.

There will be a creative container demo at 10 a.m. and T&L Hotdog food truck will be on site from 10-2.

The WV Botanic Garden Visitors Center will be open with various unique garden- and nature-themed items for sale. In addition, Green Thumb Botanicals from Bridgeport will offer a pop-up shop selling fresh flower bouquets and live plants. All items are ideal for Mother’s Day gift giving.

Tours of the WV Botanic Garden will be offered Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

The only botanic garden in the state, the Botanic Garden is a true grass roots operation and depends totally on grants and donations to offer the beautiful experience to the public.

“This time of year, it is so magical,” Allison. “There is so much in bloom, and it really is a special place. We have a kids’ adventure area and also a secret garden with a Moongate Sculpture and Labyrinth Fairy Gardens.”

The destination, located at 1061 Tyrone Road, Morgantown, offers year-round workshops and hosts groups and field trips.

Open dawn to dusk 365 days per year, the WV Botanic Garden at Tibbs Run Reserve is also a lovely place to celebrate Mother’s Day – or any day, Allison said.

The WV Botanic Garden Visitors Center is open 10-5 Thursday through Saturday and 12-5 Sunday.
