More than 30 Bridgeport High School track and field athletes will be in Charleston the next days competing in the annual state meet at Laidley Field.
Day 1 of the two-day event will feature finals in two relay events and the open 3,200-meter run, a handful of field events and preliminaries for the 100, 200 and 100/110 hurdles.
The Indians will have a boys and girls team in both Friday relays.
The girls 4x800 team consists of Alea Matthis, Mikaela DeMoss, Sara Rexroad and Ashley McBrayer. Making up the boys 4x800 team is Sam Dodson, Ethan Smell, Quentin Collier and William Northey.
In the shuttle hurdle relays, the BHS girls team is Ava Hollen, Bria Smell, Myleigh Smell and Hazel Jackson. For the boys, the shuttles team is made up of Cale Culicerto, Gabe Martin, Cam Martin and Parker Blount.
The members of the relay teams are based on who was on the team that ran and qualified at last week’s regional meets. Schools have the option of subbing in a runner on any relay team.
Culicerto and Myleigh Smell will both look to qualify for Saturday’s finals in the 111/100 hurdles as they will compete in today’s qualifying heats.
In the preliminaries for the 100 and 200, Giana Cox will compete in both today for the girls as will Timmy Jeffress for the boys.
Friday’s field event finals for Class AAA include girls discus, girls long jump, girls high jump, boys long jump, boys high jump and boys pole vault. BHS will be involved in three of them.
Lyza Halterman will compete in the girls discus, Abigale Stewart will be in the girls high jump field and Noah Kintz will be part of the boys pole vault.
Today’s action will begin at 2 p.m.
