Brian McLendon, MD., recently joined United Hospital Center's General Surgery practice as an acute care surgeon. He began his medical career as a nurse, receiving an associate degree in nursing from Robeson Community College, Lumberton, NC.
He went on to earn a bachelor science in biology degree with a biomedical concentration from the University of North Carolina, Pembroke, NC, and furthered his education with a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Brody School of Medicine, East Carolina University, Greenville, NC. Dr. McLendon's internship and residency were both at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth General Surgery.
He comes to UHC from a medical group in Reading, PA, where he was part of a five-person group providing elective and emergency surgery as well as endoscopic services at a 738-bed teaching hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center.
A Navy veteran, Dr. McLendon was part of a Fleet Surgical Team. His extensive experience also includes assistant director of nursing; working as a shift supervisor in Emergency Services; assistant unit manager, Emergency Services; and staff nurse, Emergency Services, all at Southeastern Regional Medical Center, Lumberton, NC.
Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his excellence in caring for surgical patients, both as a civilian and as a member of the Navy.
He is a member of the American College of Surgeons and is board certified in surgery.
