Bridgeport Post 68 recently won the 2022 Junior Varsity State Baseball championship in a tournament held at Elkins.

On July 24, Bridgeport made it to the title game where they faced off with Morgantown Post 2’s junior varsity squad. Post 68 pounded out nine base hits on their way to a 16-6 state championship victory.

“Our defense was the cleanest it has been all season which played a key part in us clinching the victory” said first-year Coach Vincent Turner.

Brody Pierce drove in four runs on two hits to lead Post 68.  Pierce drove in runs on a single in the second inning and a triple in the third.

Post 68 Junior Legion put up six runs in the fifth inning.  Tanner Mayfield, Grant Lively, Sean Via, Sam Goodwin, and Antonio Spagnuolo powered the pivotal inning with RBIs.

Jacob Stavrakis earned the win for Post 68 Junior Legion.  Stavrakis went three innings, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out one.  Lively threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.  Lively recorded the last six outs to earn the save for post 68 Junior Legion.

Spagnuolo, Via, Brody Pierce, and Tyler Veltri all had multiple hits for the team
