City Faces in Different Places

By Julie Perine on November 22, 2020 from City Faces

This week's Bridgeport City Face is Toma Courtney. Meet her and her family here:

How long have you lived in Bridgeport? If not a lifelong resident, tell me what brought you here.
I have lived in Bridgeport for about 11 years. We moved here after my husband finished his orthopedic residency and started his practice at UHC.

Are you married, have kids? Tell me about your family.
I am married to Chris Courtney and we have 2 kids. My son Addison is a freshman at Fairmont State University, and my daughter Gracie is a junior at Bridgeport High School.

What about pets?
I have 2 Great Dane dogs, Landry and Duke

Where do you work and what do you do there?
My time is spent being a mom, wife and contributor to the community. I am currently co-chairing the Holly Ball, an event I have been involved in for the past 5 years. I also spend a lot of my time in my family’s non-profit, Training Traditions. We enjoy offering athletic training to the youth in the area.

What are your hobbies/favorite past times?
I enjoy camping and boating, and spending time with my family.

Favorite Bridgeport spot?
I don’t have just one favorite spot.

What do you like about Bridgeport … why is this a good place to live?
I love the Bridgeport community; it is so supportive and accepting. It gives me that small-town feel, like Stars Hollow from the Gilmore Girls.

One – or more – of your favorite memories of something that took place in Bridgeport ...
My favorite memories in Bridgeport are events like “Light Up Night” and the parades, especially the ones where my kids have been involved, like the senior parade during COVID or the BHS homecoming parade.

What is your favorite WV spot outside of Bridgeport?
Tygart Lake

How about your favorite place outside of WV?
My favorite place outside of WV is Rocky River Ohio. We lived there for about a year and it reminds me a lot of Bridgeport.

What are some of your favorite things?
Spending time outdoors and being with my family. And having a house full of kids!

Food/restaurant?
I am currently loving Winnie’s Cafe.

Favorite color?
Depends on the season!

Music genre/artist?
Eric Church/Chris Stapleton

What is your best childhood memory?
Camping at Lake Sherwood

Interesting fact about you and/or something you would like to add…
My secret life goal is to own a doggie day care, you can never be surrounded by enough dogs!
